Hunting Season

Conner's Photo of the LIttle Lost River Valley, where we deer hunted this year. Corey harvested his deer in the foothills below the snowline in the photo.
Conner's photo of our deer camp (well, half of our deer camp...there was actually another wall tent and a trailer)...Grandpa is on the left talking to one of our friends...
Conner's photo of a rare sight: Sprinklers freezing in the hay field...nice photo Conner!
Little Conner's photo he took of deer escaping (this became a common sight this season!)....not bad photography for an 11 year old with a point and shoot!
SAFE CANYON: This is the safe door installed in the side of the mountain in what we call Safe Canyon, near Howe, ID. The locked room was used in the 50s to store gold ore...the miners brought the gold ore down the mountain from the mine on mules and stored it here, until it could be picked up by truck.
Corey's deer...final score: Deer 38, Corey 1. We put this boy in front of more deer than you can imagine...it took a while for his reflexes to kick in....this deer was spotted by uncle Clif from 600 yards....he and Corey stalked to within 20 yards of the critter before Corey finally brought the deer down. Corey the mighty hunter!

High School Soccer Season

Kyle (and Kevin) had a great high school season this year! Finished 19-3-1, took fourth at the state tourney. Kyle was ranked very high state-wide in both goals and assists from his center-mid position. Both boys had a great time and played on a great team! (UPDATE: 11/5: Kyle was just named all-conference first team as a forward for the second year in a row...as a freshman and sophomore, he was also named all conference, but as a midfielder)
Kevin (keeper)--Finished the season as the number one (#1) ranked goalkeeper in the state of idaho (for all classifications 3A, 4A, and 5A).....(had 14 total shutouts in 23 games this season--Gave up a total of 6 goals in the regular season (only three in conference play)). (UPDATE: 11/5: Kevin was just named all conference FIRST team goalie (as a sophomore...big deal!)).
Kyle versus Teton HS
Kyle (headband) early in season
Kevin about to get his face kicked in by a player from Rigby...notice the ball underneath Kevin.
This is an EXTRA: Kevin also wound up as the varsity kicker this year for the football team...he hit a high percentage of his extra points, executed quite a few onside kicks that were recovered, and also managed to be involved in a few goofy plays (like blocked PATs and kickoff returns for TDs that he got road-graded on)...overall, a total blast! Oh, he also got in a few snaps at noseguard.

Baseball Season

Kevin was our varsity catcher this year as a freshman...did a super job!
Kevin blocking the plate against the ace pitcher for the other team, who chose, for some unknown reason, to slide into home head first!
Ouch! Why would the opposing player come in head first to a 6'0" 235 lb. catcher who had the plate blocked two steps before the play?......
Big collision results in Kevin pancaking an unconcious-looking opponent.
After the play at home (ump signals "out!")...Kevin broke the guy's wrist and dislocated his shoulder (ended the player's season...too bad, because he was signed to play college ball this year)...moral of story: When Kevin blocks the plate, it's blocked.
Kelli Jelli preparing to smack the ball to the outfield!
Kelli heading for home plate!
Corey swatting a double in league play...
Corey racing to first (he was named a first team all star this year, primarily for his speedy catches in center field, but he hit extremely well this year, too...)
League Champions!: Conner pulled off something that his two oldest brothers never managed to do...win it all! Congrats Conner!
Conner won two games for his team on the final play of the game this year (one was a walkoff single and the other was a play at third for the final out)....here he is whacking the ball into play during the championship game.
Kyle Pitching to Kevin: In 14 years, this is something we had never seen before...Kyle (who normally plays shortstop) pitched a few innings one game and Kevin caught him....we thought they would never agree on what pitch to throw, but luckily, it worked out!
Kevin attacking a bunt...
This would be Kevin striking out!
Kyle batted over .420 for his high school team this year (this is a photo of him actually striking out--Notice that the catcher has the ball!)

Lake Agnes, MT

This is why we hiked up to Lake Agnes, Montana...spectacular grayling...beautiful iridescent colors on the huge dorsal fin...lots of fun...we caught them on black ant flies (released them all...so no report on whether they taste good or not).
Corey on the hike UP to Lake Agnes (that's a different lake down below)...this is about half way up.
Corey and Conner trying to keep live Grayling in a 'pond' they created...(all the grayling escaped).
Corey coming to show me his Grayling from Lake Agnes (Kevin in the background fishing)...notice the white sandy beaches that surround the lake!
Lake Agnes...about 2-3 miles in length...total isolation...great fishing...great scenery.
Grayling from Lake Agnes, Montana...they averaged between 12 and 17 inches long...beautiful colors!

Summit Creek Summer 09

Corey fishing late afternoon on Summit Creek
Kids + friends in Barney Hot Springs (right next to Summit Creek--400 yards away)

Summit Creek, near campsite. Haley caught 16" 'bow on the corner in this pix.

Bell Mountain next to Summit Creek, ID

Birch Creek, Spring 09

Elk were feeding near the creek in April

Kelli's photo of trumpeter swan that was nesting on the creek bank

Kelli at Birch Creek, Idaho, April 11 -- 09. She's getting good at flyfishing on her own...and Birch Creek is the world's greatest flyfishing school...no trees to get caught on and thousands of starving trout...

Alaska / Canada

Logjam Creek, Prince of Wales, Alaska
Control Lake Cabin, Prince of Wales, Alaska (this is a forest service cabin we stayed in)

12 pound Silver (Coho) salmon from Klawock River, Alaska (Prince of Wales)
This is a Chinook (King, or sometimes called 'Spring') salmon, taken offshore from Sooke, British Columbia (Vancouver Island)...it weighed about 30 pounds, so they call it a "Tyee"

Beautiful male Sockeye salmon, Klawock river, Alaska
A big Chum (dog) salmon...the huge, sharp teeth scared me....
